Loebsack should answer request for debates
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 5, 2010 12:14 am
Following the June congressional 2nd District primary, candidate Mariannette Miller-Meeks requested a debate with Rep. Dave Loebsack, D-Iowa, in all 15 counties. After attempts to contact him at his offices and his campaign headquarters, he was reached at home, by registered mail. To date, there has been no response to this request.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen and The Cedar Rapids Gazette, in conjunction with KCRG-TV9, all have agreed to sponsor a debate. The voters deserve to have issues debated in order to discern the candidates' stand. I am eager to have such an event in Muscatine County.
Debate is an accepted and expected part of a political campaign. Miller-Meeks is willing to debate. Loebsack should not continue to ignore his constituents.
