CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Sunday after a high-speed chase through Cedar Rapids and into Johnson County.
Christopher David Wilson, 34, faces charges of driving while license revoked, eluding, carrying weapons, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple traffic violations, according to Cedar Rapids police.
Officers saw a 2006 Chevrolet Impala driving just after noon Sunday without license plates and tried to conduct a traffic stop near 19th Avenue and Mallory Street SW.
The driver, later identified as Wilson, accelerated southbound at high speed on Mallory Street toward Wilson Avenue SW, where he crossed through an intersection without stopping.
Police pursued the vehicle through southwest Cedar Rapids, onto Highway 30 West and then onto Interstate 380 South, at times reaching speeds of up 110 mph.
The pursuit continued to the Shueyville exit and through Swisher to L Road NW toward Linn /Johnson Road NW, police said.
The pursuit ended when Wilson’s vehicle ran out of gas, and Wilson was taken into custody.
Police said a pipe with methamphetamine residue and a large machete with a blade exceeding 8 inches were found in the vehicle.
Wilson was taken to Mercy Medical Center for evaluation and then transferred to the Linn County Correctional Center.
