CEDAR RAPIDS — Police arrested two juveniles early Monday who are accused of attempting to break into a truck.
Officers were dispatched just after 1 a.m. to the 6300 block of Windy Meadow Lane NE for reports of two juveniles trying to break into a truck down the street.
When they arrived, officers spotted a 2009 Honda Accord traveling without headlights.
Officers initiated a traffic stop near Windy Meadows Circle and Prairie Grass Court NE. The Honda attempted to do a U-turn on the dead-end Prairie Grass Court NE, but was blocked by a second police car.
Police said a 14-year-old boy was driving the vehicle. Four other juveniles were inside, including a 17-year-old male.
The Honda, police said, belonged to the parents of one of the juveniles.
Police said the 14-year-old driver was driving while barred. He faces charges of driving while barred, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, no headlights and no seat belt.
The 17-year-old faces charges of interference with official acts and fifth-degree criminal mischief. Police said he gave officers false identification and damaged an interview room at the police station.
Officers determined a backpack was taken from a truck in the 4600 block of Blossom View Court NE. The backpack was recovered a short distance from a house, and no items were reported stolen.
Because of Iowa juvenile confidentiality laws, the police department said it is unable to provide the names of the boys. A Linn County Sheriff’s Office deputy assisted with the incident.
