The group that supports repealing Iowa City's 21-and-up bar ordinance accused the 21 Makes Sense group of handing out fliers in University of Iowa residence halls, an action prohibited by university policy.
Matt Pfaltzgraf, leader of the anti 21-only campaign, Yes to Entertaining Students Safely, said he was planning to file an ethics complaint today.
However, the U of I said this morning that the 21 Makes Sense group followed university procedures that allow for mass mailings of campaign literature once before an election.
“There is absolutely no infraction at all,” said Carrie Kiser-Wacker, assistant to the direction of University Housing & Dining. Kiser-Wacker sent the following guidelines to Johnson County Auditor Tom Slockett and asked him to make them available to both groups.
“The 21-only group followed our rules,” Kiser-Wacker said.
