Be active participant in Democratic Party
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jan. 19, 2014 2:12 pm
I encourage anyone interested in making a difference to attend the caucuses on Tuesday. Participating is the best way to be an active participant in the Democratic Party's platform and agenda. This is an opportunity to come together with friends and neighbors to fight for the values that are important to our communities and is what the spirit of the Iowa caucuses is all about.
There is much at stake for Iowa's future and this caucus will help us decide what direction we want our state and our nation to go. Things such as raising the minimum wage, protecting affordable health care, taking care of our veterans when they come home, and equal rights and equal opportunities for all Iowans.
Some people may ask, what happens at a caucus in a non-presidential year? Participants will have the important task of selecting delegates to represent their precinct at the county conventions, electing precinct committee members and discussing resolutions to be included in the Iowa Democratic Party's platform.
You can find your precinct caucus location by logging onto www.thecaucuses.org or the Linn County Auditors website at http://www.linncountyelections.org/caucus2014/.
Anyone eligible to vote in the November general election and is a registered Democrat may participate.
