Donald Michael Kout, 82, of Lone Tree, passed away, Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral Mass will be held at
10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lone Tree. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery with full military honors. Following the committal service, a time of food and fellowship will
be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 2, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Lone Tree. Memorials may be directed to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa Hospital in memory of Donald. Sympathy notes may be left family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.
Donald Michael Kout was born on March 18, 1939, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Oswald and Victoria (Rolfes) Kout He was a 1957 graduate of Lawler High School and then graduated from Hamilton Business College with a C.P.A. Degree. On May 7, 1962, Donald was drafted by the U.S. Army serving until May 7, 1964. On Nov. 21, 1964, Donald was united in marriage to Elaine Tessmer. Donald worked for the State of Iowa as a bank examiner and then moved to Lone Tree in 1967. Donald bought controlling interest in the F&M Bank in Lone Tree where he remained until his retirement in 2015. Donald was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lone Tree, Lone Tree Chamber of Commerce, Lone Tree American Legion and Iowa State Bankers Association. He also was an original board member of the Lone Tree Health Care Center until 2019, serving as Treasurer. Donald enjoyed golfing, fishing and boating but, most of all, he dearly loved being with his family and going to his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.
Donald will be greatly missed by his wife, Elaine of Lone Tree; his children, Michele (Richard) Blood of Denver, Colo., Bruce (Andrea) Kout of Iowa City, Barbara (William) Sample of Plano, Texas, and Marnie (Daniel) Buser of Lone Tree; 11 grandchildren, Morgan, Kennedi, Carson, Avery, Emily, Zoie, Sidney, Isabel, Ella, Jackson and Trey; one great-grandchild, Everly; and siblings, Joseph (Hazel) Kout of Hazelton, Patricia Fitzgerald of Newton, Rose Crittendon of Newton and James (Kelley) Kout of Bowie, Md.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Kout; and two brothers-in-law, Eugene Fitzgerald and Phillip Crittendon.
