The weather this weekend is supposed to get hot enough to remind us all what summer in Iowa feels like. But, cooling off could be tricky if you like to swim.
In Cedar Rapids, all the outdoor pools remain closed this weekend. However, Bever pool will open up for Memorial Day weekend. The rest of the pools will open up the first weekend in June.
Aquatics staff say they picked the open date in January. And, part of what played into their decision was the amount of snow days the schools were using.
Aquatics Manager Carolyn Hamilton said 60% of their customers are young children, and if those children are in school the pools don't open.
“But we also have the issues with college kids not being here and the high school kids not being able to get away from their studies and train and be ready to work,” said Hamilton.
Hamilton said some years they have to open late because it's not warm enough. Then, she said there are some years like this year where they wish they could open early because it will be warm enough.
If you're looking to cool off this weekend, the splash pads are open in Hiawatha.
