Why are immigration violators given passes?

Most laws are meant to stop people from doing something they should not do and to penalize those who disregard those laws. Generally, laws are meant to protect society from lawbreakers.
Immigration laws seem to be different. The focus seems to be what can be done to lift the stigma and ease the pressures on those who have broken the law. The Associated Press refuses to let their reporters refer to people as “illegal immigrants” who sneaked across the border into this country, in violation of American laws.
The AP, however, does not mind calling other lawbreakers by their crimes, such as “killer,” “rapist,” “illegal drug seller,” “bank robber,” etc.
Why do we have sanctuary cities to protect illegal immigrants from the law? I haven't heard of a sanctuary city for American shoplifters or jaywalkers. Why aren't we deporting these illegal people? Immigrants who come to this country legally have to earn their citizenship and we allow about 1 million to come here each year.
We have immigration laws for the benefit of the American people, not for the benefit of people in other countries who want to come here. Political and media elites treat the American people as if they are the problem, not the illegal people.
We get promises about border security that have not been kept. The present secure border allows 1.4 million illegal people to illegally enter our country each year. With amnesty promised, the number would be multiplied by several times. We have high unemployment of American citizens at the present time. We do not need this problem complicated with up to 20 million illegal immigrants allowed to work here at the same time.
It is said that a country that does not have secure borders is not much of a country.
