C.R. schools wasting taxpayers' money
Feb. 17, 2010 11:52 pm
Kudos to Mr. Fredericks for his Feb. 15 guest column on the Cedar Rapids School District. Not only do we have wasteful spending, our children aren't in the classrooms long enough to learn anything. Only those children who are especially smart are able to learn with the current practice of days and hours off almost every week of the school year.
Many teachers have even expressed to me that the half days taken for meetings are wasteful and have no benefit whatsoever to the students or teachers.
Then school leaders tell us that they need to increase taxes for further wasteful spending. I am sure part of that increase is earmarked for more wage increases in management.
What are they doing with the local option tax they got for all the so-called improvements? I was under the impression that was to also take the place of any property tax increases.
How much do we have to sacrifice before you have enough? Enough already! Reduce your spending, give our children the education they deserve, quit these wasteful wage increases and do your jobs.
