Dorance V. Holub, 86, of Coggon, Iowa, passed away at home on June 24, 2021. A Vigil service will be held at
4 p.m. Monday, June 28, at the Monti Community Center at 2854 Washington Ave., in rural Coggon, conducted by the Rev. Beckman. Visitation will follow from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Monti Community Center. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Monti, at 2856 Washington Ave., in rural Coggon, conducted by the Rev. Nienhaus. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Monti. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion, Iowa, is assisting the family.
Dorance was born on Aug. 14, 1934, in Prairieburg, Iowa, the son of Victor and Rose (Marek) Holub. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves from 1954 to 1962. On Dec. 26, 1959, Dorance was united in marriage to Mary Patricia Flanagan in Monti, Iowa. He farmed for over 60 years on a family farm located just south of Monti in southeast Buchanan County. Dorance was an early practitioner of soil conservation farming practices. He was a member of the Farm Coop board, Knights of Columbus and active in his church, St. Patrick Catholic Church of Monti. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dorance is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Mary Pat (Flanagan) Holub; five children, James Holub of Dubuque, Iowa, Maureen Holub (Dave Rauker) of Swampscott, Mass., RoseAnn Holub of Coggon, Daniel Holub (Agnieszka Ligendza) of Indianapolis, Ind., and Timothy (Connie) Holub of Coggon; three grandchildren, TD (Sarah) Holub, Michael Holub and Ashley Holub; and his great-granddaughter, Macynn Holub.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor A. and Rose Marie (Marek) Holub of Prairieburg; two brothers, Arthur and Irvin Holub; and three sisters, Alvina Eden, Violette Crowley/Anstoetter and Velva Gadient.
Memorials in Dorance's memory may be made to the Hospice of Mercy Fund in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
