Guns protect people

For the anti-gun people, why not lobby your representatives to pass laws to shoot feral cats instead? It will be less divisive, protect wildlife and will be equally as effective in curbing gun violence as hassling over assault(?) weapons, magazine capacities and universal background checks (impossible and costly).
If you wonder how often guns are used to protect people, go to nraila.org/gun-laws/armed-citizen for referenced instances.
