IOWA CITY — Iowa forward Jarrod Uthoff averaged 29.5 points in two games last week, and he received co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors today by the conference.
Uthoff, a 6-foot-9 senior from Cedar Rapids, notched careers highs in both games. Last Monday, he scored a personal-high 27 points in a win against Western Illinois. At Iowa State, Uthoff scored 30 of his 32 points in the first half of an 83-82 loss to the Cyclones.
In those two games, Uthoff shot 61 percent (22 of 36), including 69 percent from 3-point range (9-of-13). He hit 6 of 7 free throws and averaged 9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks a game.
This was Uthoff's second Big Ten Player of the Week award. He last earned it on Jan. 6, 2015 after leading Iowa to wins at Ohio State and against Nebraska. He leads the Big Ten in scoring at 19.6 points a game.
The Hawkeyes (7-3) face Drake (4-6) in the Big 4 Classic at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Des Moines' Wells Fargo Arena. The game is not televised, but it's available on ESPN3.
