Don’t give out personal information

To the editor:
It never ceases to amaze me how people who ordinarily are concerned about their personal information being compromised will, on command, blurt out their phone numbers and/or email addresses without any thought about who may be standing around them even when they make purchases as small as a spool of thread.
I feel the practice some stores have of asking for this information should be reconsidered. The same old tired excuse for asking for this information year after year does not warrant this practice. Cedar Rapids customers come from Cedar Rapids and surrounding smaller communities. People don't flock here from out of state. I shop at these stores less and less.
