First priority: Put Iowans back to work
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Bravo to a Polk County judge who ruled that Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad's line-item veto of a bill keeping 36 unemployment offices open was unconstitutional. Branstad's veto reflected bad judgment by attempting to save a small amount of money at the expense of maintaining a high unemployment rate in Iowa.
If Branstad had an appreciation of the big picture, he never would have made that veto in the first place. Putting people back to work should be the No. 1 priority in Iowa, and Branstad would do well to appreciate this fact.
