My sister was recently diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. This was a very big shock as she has always been a person who ate lots of fruits and vegetables and watched her weight; she finished three marathons.
Her doctors at Mayo Clinic have advised a stem cell transplant, but neither my other sister or I are a match for her. Her doctors have checked 9 million possible donors on the BeTheMatch registry. So far, no matches.
If you want to help others, please sign up to be a donor at BeTheMatch.org. It involves a simple cheek swab and, if you match, they draw blood and remove the stem cells and give you back your own blood. There are many others in need of a stem cell transplant. Please consider joining BeTheMatch.
