Haines, Hal D.
Hal D. Haines, 81, passed on to be with the Lord, July 29, 2009, after a long struggle with cancer. A celebration of life service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
The Rev. Mike Morgan of First United Methodist Church of Marion will officiate. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving are his son Lynn Haines and wife Teri of Deep River, his daughter Jan Haines and her fiance Michael Day of Prairie du Chien, Wis., eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Dora, and his loving wife Mary Haines.
He was born and raised in Coggon, served in the Navy, returned and married Mary Sweet on October 14, 1950. He then was in the real estate business in Cedar Rapids and operated his own firm until 1960. He had a dedicated 28-year career at Perpetual Savings and Loan, which included becoming president and CEO in 1970. He also was part of the Christian Business Men's Group in Cedar Rapids. He loved to fish and play golf. He attended First United Methodist Church in Marion, and was a great inspiration to others.
His close walk with Jesus prepared him well for his long illness and his trip to heaven. His family and friends will miss him greatly, however they find great comfort in their confidence that he is now in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Camp Courageous or to Hospice of Mercy.
