Youssef, Aly I.
Aly I. Youssef, 71, died peacefully at 5:19 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Muslim National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Aly was born Jan. 14, 1942, in Tanta, Egypt. He received his bachelor's degree in Egypt, where he served in the military. In 1973, Aly moved to the United States and on July 5, 1974, he married Myra Hamati in Iowa City.
Aly was an engineer and supervisor at Sheller-Globe (UTA) for over 25 years. Following retirement he was a Realtor with Century 21, then became a linguist for the United States government in Iraq, where his colleagues called him “Jack.”
He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed games such as backgammon and chess.
Survivors include his loving wife, Myra; and their son, Sharif Youssef of Iowa City and Sherry Youssef of Scottsdale, Ariz., legal guardian of Ahmed, Mai and Mohammed Youssef; his siblings, Hassan and Nadia Youssef; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends in the U.S. and Egypt.
