Apr. 11, 2012 1:00 pm
One person has been displaced after a house fire in Iowa City late Tuesday caused an estimated $75,000 in damage, according to the Iowa City Fire Department.
Iowa City firefighters at 10:14 p.m. Tuesday were called to a two-story, single family home at 1418 Sycamore St. on a report of a structure fire, according to a news release. Two engines, one ladder truck and a battalion chief responded to the blaze, according to the fire department, and firefighters who were first on scene encountered heavy smoke.
All of the home's occupants were out of the house when crews arrived, according to the department. MidAmerican Energy shut off the utilities, Johnson County Ambulance was ready on standby, and the Iowa City Police Department provided traffic control so crews could battle the fire.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control quickly, and it was extinguished in about one hour, according to the department. Crews spent about three hours on scene, and the department conducted an emergency callback of off-duty fire personnel to backfill stations.
No one was injured in the fire, although one person was displaced and is working with the American Red Cross for lodging.
The Iowa City Fire Department is continuing to investigate what caused the blaze.
