Cyclones sign 28 football recruits

AMES, Iowa (AP) - A year on the job and success on the field helped Iowa State's football coaches put up some impressive numbers in their recruiting.

In announcing the signing of 28 recruits Wednesday, coach Paul Rhoads said he was especially pleased with his staff's success rate.

Fifteen recruits made official visits during the 2009 football season and 14 of those players signed with the Cyclones. Of the 32 total players who made official visits to campus, only four did not sign with Iowa State.

Iowa State went 7-6 last fall in Rhoads' first season as coach and beat Minnesota in the Insight Bowl.

The recruits include seven junior college transfers and five high school players from Iowa.
