Reform attempts to save programs in trouble

Two May 3 letters prompted me to write.
The first from Richard Greer on the proposals for Social Security and Medicare reform. His conclusion was that proposed changes not affecting people over age 55 was selfish and unfeeling toward those under 55. He attributed this attitude to George Bush, Paul Ryan and other Republicans.
This is the typical left class warfare on every issue. The intent of the proposed changes is to save programs in trouble. There would be an opportunity for those under 55 to make provisions for their future that those over 55 may not have time for. It has nothing to do with a lack of caring but is the exact opposite in trying to assure that something will be there for those under 55 when they need it.
If this is not the best solution, then come up with a better one.
The letter from Sue Dirks on “Corporate America is bringing us down” was again the typical left talking points. She states that Republicans are “generating wealth for the few,” “eliminating the middle class,” “destroy Medicaid and Social Security.” She also said that it is the “middle class who make the goods and provide the services that this country relies on.”
This would have been accurate if she had started with it is Corporate America that provides the jobs to this middle class. Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security are in trouble and the Republicans have the courage to try to save them, not destroy them.
This kind of rhetoric is like getting a drink of water from a fire hose.
