Brock Allen Cole, 21, of Manchester, faces 10 charges, including two felonies, after he allegedly stole a pickup in Manchester and led officers on a lengthy chase Wednesday before a police dog finally found him hiding in a brush pile.
Maquoketa Valley schools in Delhi were temporarily locked down Wednesday afternoon when the suspect fled into nearby woods.
Cole, who allegedly stole the pickup Tuesday from the Simons Feed and Grain parking lot in Manchester, was spotted by a Simons employee at 1 p.m. Wednesday driving the pickup on a Manchester street.
Alerted by the employee, officers converged on the location, and the truck sped south on River Road, then east on gravel roads before emerging on County Road X21, where a Manchester police unit intercepted the truck.
The truck swerved around the patrol unit, continued east on D5X toward Delhi and traveled more gravel roads before Delhi police intercepted the vehicle on County Road X31.
When the pickup entered the ditch just south of Delhi on X31, the driver fled on foot into the woods, followed by officers from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and the Manchester and Delhi police departments.
Cole immediately surrendered about 2:30 p.m. when the dog found him, according to Manchester Police Chief Bruce Trapp.
Cole faces two felony charges, theft of a motor vehicle and eluding a police officer, as well as charges of interference with official acts and driving under suspension and six traffic-related offenses.
