Blame the people, not the guns

First, my heart still aches for the loss of innocent lives, not just in Newtown, but all across America.

There is a call to come up with a solution to figure out a way to prevent the same kind of wholesale slaughter from happening again. It is foolish to think that more laws will prevent such horrific events from happening ever again.

Some people are calling for a ban of “assault weapons,” which is silly because we have had (some form of) this law since 1935. There is a call to close gun-show loopholes when no such loopholes exist. Some are calling for a ban on rifles that resemble military weapons, some types of ammunition or high-capacity magazines. These demands are driven by emotion and flawed logic.

By using this emotionally driven logic, then it stands to reason that a ban on all cameras and computers would prevent child pornography and would prevent pedophiles from preying upon our children.

Placing the blame on an object that can be used for good or evil is delusional. It is people, not the object, who determine how that object will be used.
