We spend more than tax without thinking of it

I read the letters to the editor every day. Sometimes I can't believe what I read. Aug. 11, I read what Mark Kelchen wrote (“Wanted: C.R. leaders responsible with money”) about our administration. Wow. Kelchen, I think I hate our rough streets even more than you do. You know what? They can't be fixed without money.

Stop and think about one little penny on a dollar (which won't add to what we are paying now in local-option sales tax) to help repair our streets for the next 10 years. You will go to a fine restaurant and pay $60 and think nothing of it. You will go to a gas station and pay nearly $4 a gallon for gas and think nothing of it. You will go to a grocery store and pay $100 for groceries that are worth $50 or less. Come on. One penny per dollar over a 10-year period to help our city with street repairs and other needs.

By the way, Mayor Ron Corbett is doing a fine job. He conducts our council meetings very properly and does not sleep as some of our past mayors have. New blood does help in some cases but right now our city is doing very well with what they have to work with.
