Bernie Sanders offers honest vision

To the editor:
As an early supporter of Bernie Sanders, I am happy to see him doing well in the polls, but more importantly, I am glad that other Iowans are getting to know him and becoming comfortable with him as our possible next president. It seems that people too quickly are willing to accept the idea that so-and-so is unelectable or that another candidate is so well known, so why bother?
But what Sanders' campaign demonstrates is that important ideas matter. A person who is consistent in fighting for a better playing field for the working person is needed to make America great again. It also matters that he thinks that the environment needs to be prioritized and the infrastructure that needs repairing also holds the key to alternative energy, green jobs, and a better set of possibilities for good paying jobs. It matters that he wants to protect health care and strengthen Social Security and has worked effectively as a mayor, congressman and senator to build consensus. Finally, he understands that if we don't reform our prisons, hold everyone accountable (including white collar criminals), and re-evaluate who we are incarcerating, we have no chance of equity for people of color.
I encourage Iowans, regardless of party, to listen to what Sanders is talking about. He offers an honest vision that makes us a better nation, but as he often says, he 'can't do it alone.” Join the growing numbers that 'Feel the Bern.”
