Polk has unique model for education

Much has been presented as justification for and against school closings. But I fear there is an undisputable reason that is being overlooked.
Polk Elementary, unlike other elementary schools in Cedar Rapids, has and must have a unique culture and model for education. During the last 15 years, Polk has taken on a large task of reforming education and more importantly instilling confidence and excitement in under privileged children for their future.
There are large community efforts in place to support the continuance of their mission. Programs to encourage, support and follow these kids through post high school education. The school is a model of consistency, offering the district one of its lowest staff attrition rates. They are committed and excellent educators. It's a model of success. So why would someone close down a successful model? Shouldn't one replicate and look for ways to refine such a model? Dispersing these children to other schools is not meeting their educational needs.
It appears there has been little consideration in continuance planning for the successful model these children are now benefiting from. There are far more logistics to this than geographic divisions. So why we continue to debate and justify, remember that reasons lead to success, excuses lead to failure. Keep Polk's doors open for the kids' sake!
