Lifesaving speed cameras should stay

I don't understand what the state has to say about each city's decision regarding the red light cameras, but especially the speed cameras.
Statistics prove that it has greatly reduced accidents and deaths on Interstate 380 through Cedar Rapids. Passing a law that says we can't have speed cameras is like giving everyone permission to speed. There will be many accidents in the S-curves again because people are so involved with being in such a hurry that no one believes the law applies to them.
The worst part, from what I gathered in the Jan. 22 article “Lawmakers again setting sights on traffic cameras,” is that lawmakers believe that if they are against a bill that would get rid of cameras it might affect their election results. They would rather be elected than stand up for what is the right thing to do.
The speed cameras are lifesaving equipment.
