Forecasters say light snow that fell across Iowa overnight is just a warm-up for what's to come this week.
The National Weather Service says most of Iowa saw 1 to 2 inches of snow by early Monday.
A major winter storm will push into the state Tuesday and Wednesday. Heavy snow - up to a foot is possible - will be followed by strong winds. The system will spread across Kansas and Nebraska by Monday night and then push into Iowa.
Heavy snow is expected on Tuesday. Winds will become stronger, creating blizzard conditions by early Wednesday.
A blizzard watch has been issued for eastern Iowa on Tuesday into Wednesday, with a winter storm watch for western and central Iowa for late Monday into Wednesday.
