Whitmer, Lois Marie
Lois Marie Whitmer, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died early Monday morning, May 7, 2012, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with visitation starting at 10:30 a.m.
Lois Marie Whitmer was born Oct. 15, 1919, in Kirkville, Iowa, the daughter of William E. and Ethel M. (Guthrie) James. Lois married Elmo I. Whitmer on Oct. 19, 1935, in Ottumwa, Iowa, and celebrated 62 years of marriage in 1997.
Lois is survived by two daughters, Karen McKee of Marion and Carol Fleener of Hartford, Ky.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmo; daughter, Phyllis Kay Waters; four brothers; and a sister.
Lois was a member of the Squaw Creek Baptist Church in Marion and a member of the ladies auxiliary of Rural Letter Carriers. She was also a member of N.A.R.F.E., Chapter 133 in Cedar Rapids and Chapter 183 Order of Eastern Star in Marion.
