Education a priority for Rob Hogg

As a parent of an Iowa State sophomore and Kennedy High School senior, and former member the Cedar Rapids Community School District Board of Education, I wanted to thank you for your coverage of the state senate race in District 33. ('Focus turns to education issues,” Oc. 21).
I support Rob Hogg for re-election to the state senate. He has been a consistent leader for excellence in education from early childhood to college, to lifelong learning.
He is a strong supporter of early childhood education because he knows how important it is for children to get a good start in life. In 2007, he helped establish the state's first math and science initiative. Throughout his career, he has supported more vocational opportunities for students in high school and at community college.
Unlike some state legislators (most notably Sen. Joni Ernst), he has consistently supported funding for higher education to make college as affordable as possible.
Hogg, a tireless champion for our kids, has correctly noted that Iowa's education funding is falling significantly behind the national average - more than $1,500 per student per year - due to opposition from Gov. Terry Branstad and the Iowa House. For world class learners, we need to invest in our schools. Let's re-elect Hogg to the state senate.
