A Cedar Rapids man told police he opened his door and was stabbed Saturday night.
Officers responded around 6:15 p.m. to 1025 Ninth Ave. SE when the stabbing was reported. Tom McElroy III, 48, told police he heard a noise at his door, and when he opened it, the man stabbed him in the left side and ran away.
McElroy was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center. Police said his injuries were not considered life-threatening, but he was admitted to the hospital.
According to the police report, the suspect was a black male wearing a hooded sweat shirt, with the hood up, and gray sweat pants.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said no knife was recovered. She said officers asked McElroy why someone would show up at his door and stab him, but he was unable to come up with an answer.
No arrests have been made, police said.
