More fans are coming to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium, which has given the Kernels a significant attendance bump over 2008.
After 51 games, the Kernels are over 19,000 fans ahead of last year with several big nights to come in August and September.
The introduction of five theme nights, eleven fireworks shows and five noon games have all helped to raise attendance, as well as the play on the field as the Kernels qualified for the Midwest League Playoffs in the first half for the first time since 2004.
Fans have indicated they're more likely to stay at home this summer or take day trips instead of long vacations due to the economic downturn, and are taking advantage of local attractions and events to stretch their entertainment dollar.
Special promotions, pre and post-game concerts, and daily concession specials have helped to boost numbers. The Kernels were third in all of Minor League Baseball in KRAFT Singles Tuesday Night 2-for-1 Ticket redemptions for the game on July 28.
The Kernels have five fireworks shows scheduled for August and September and 12 of the remaining 19 regular season home games are on a weekend (Thursday-Saturday) or holiday.
The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday, August 7th and open a nine-game, eight day home stand with games against Beloit and Wisconsin. Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com <http://www.kernels.com> , or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
