Hunting dogs are part of the family

I am writing in response to Joe Miele's letter “End use of dogs in sport hunting” (Dec. 6). I would disagree. There is a lot that goes into a hunting dog: money, time, training and companionship. A majority of the true hunters that use dogs are loyal to man's best friend. It is true that some people abuse and neglect their pets, but most hunters treat their hunting dogs like part of the family.
Hunting is not only a sport, but it draws in revenue for a state with hunting fees. Hunting also controls wildlife populations and is fun for the hunter as well as the dog. If you hunt for sport or to provide food for your family, it is your business as long as you abide by the laws and are ethical.
