CEDAR RAPIDS – The National Weather Service says an intense storm systems could bring strong winds and severe thunderstorms.
Strong winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour can be expected late this morning and last through this evening. High profile vehicles should use caution during the day.
Temperatures also could rise to between 85 and 90 degrees. Combine that with high winds and the danger of grass fires increases.
Late this afternoon a cold front will likely trigger scattered thunderstorms and some could be severe. The main threat is damaging winds of 60 to 70 miles per hour and large hail.
The weather service says the tornado threat has diminished greatly in Eastern Iowa as it has shifted into much of Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota.
