BBQ Roundup, Cake decorating contest, and more food and drink events for this week

The BBQ roundup celebrates 30 years and draws cooks from around the country, plus the Freedom Festival serves up tasty events this week:

Freedom Festival: Fly In/Drive in

Pair breakfast with a flight at the Marion Airport Fly In/Drive In. Grab a breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee and juice and then take a plane ride. There also will be model cars and antique and home-built aircraft on display, plus information about flight training.

BBQ Roundup

Featuring top barbecue purveyors from around the country and live music, the Roundup is celebrating 30 years. Trolleys will ferry people to the event from around downtown from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday. From 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, attend affiliated Beerfest, featuring local breweries.

• When: 11 a. m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday

The Prepared Table: Art-Beer-Food

Explore how the worlds of art, food and drink merge at this partnership between Lion Bridge Brewing Company and the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. Start at the brewery for small plate food and beer pairings, based on works in the 'Setting the Table: The Art of Still Life' exhibit at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, then head to the museum for a special program at 6 p.m.

Freedom Festival: Frost Off! Cake decorating Contest

Register a cake in child, youth or adult categories to earn a chance a ribbon or grand prize, or just stops by to view the cakes and vote for your favorite. Winners will be announced at 7:15 p.m.
