Former RoughRider Fallon traded to Blues

Mar. 2, 2010 7:57 pm
You may have seen this NHL transaction Monday, you may not have.
The Chicago Blackhawks traded goaltender Joe Fallon to the St. Louis Blues. Fallon, who played in Cedar Rapids in the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons, goes from one AHL city in Illinois (Rockford) to another (Peoria).
Also included in the deal were goaltender Hannu Toivonen and defenseman Danny Richmond, who went to the Blackhawks. The Blues also received defenseman Daryl Boyle.
Fallon, 25, was 15-10-1 with a 2.64 goals against average and .912 save percentage for Rockford this season. He was a sixth-round draft pick of the Blackhawks in 2005 after his freshman season at the University of Vermont.
“Toivonen hasn't played the amount of games he'd like to play, and to move him we had to get a goaltender in return and that's Fallon," Peoria GM Kevin McDonald told the Peoria Journal-Star. "Fallon is a draft pick, he has some upside and now we get a chance to bring him in here and look at him, watch him play, and give (Rivermen head coach) Rick Wamsley> - who knows goaltending - a chance to work with him."
