DORAL, Fla. (AP) - A 38-year-old inmate who is awaiting trial for firearm-related charges is this year's winner of an annual Miami-Dade County corrections talent show.
Andrew Cashmere won the Corrections Idol contest Sunday with an original reggae rap. He performed to a small group of fellow inmates at the county's Metro West Detention Center.
Cashmere says it was a "pleasure" to perform at the event.
Corrections officers judged the contest. The participants were all inmates who have been convicted of criminal charges or were awaiting trial.
