Downtown CR Lunch Open Thread

May. 25, 2010 11:37 am
If you work in downtown Cedar Rapids, as I do, what do you get cravings for when lunch rolls around?
I have my own favorites, a few of which I'll list below. But I'd like to hear about stuff I've missed or haven't tried.
Also, local joints really need the business. So toss in your favorites.
Here are a few of mine:
4.6 at Phong Lan. Don't ask me for the Vietnamese name, but it's noodle soup with seafood with basil, sprouts, lime and peppers on the side for customizing. I usually just throw it all in.
Pastrami and Swiss on marble rye or the meatloaf sandwich (with "the sauce") at Emil's Deli. I've never had a bad lunch at Emil's, so you can't go wrong, but these are my standbys. And you can get Coke in a glass bottle.
The Shannon Burgerat Grafton Street/Dublin City Pub. Big burger with Swiss cheese and mushrooms, crinkle fries. Great with a big pint of...iced tea. Hey, it's noon, and it's not Mad Men.
The Wild Turkeyat Mr. Beans. I'm not much of a turkey sandwich guy, but slap cream cheese and cranberry chutney on top, and I'm in. Unless the brisket sandwhich makes the daily special.
Your turn.
