Someone tried to burglarize the Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter early Wednesday morning, police said.
Nothing was taken from the shelter, which was relocated to 2109 North Towne Ln. NE after the 2008 floods. Sgt. Kent Choate, who is in charge of the animal control division, said a fence was cut and entry was made to a back door.
"I think the alarm system, the way it's set up, must have scared them off," Choate said.
Choate said the alarm automatically notified a security service at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. No one was located when security and police arrived.
Choate said he isn't sure why a burglar would target the shelter.
"I don't know," Choate said. "There's nothing in there but dogs and cats."
