Our educational system is outdated

To the editor:
Myra Krenz said in her April 10 letter 'Second Amendment unneeded for centuries” that the Second Amendment is outdated. Why, because the last time the Second Amendment was needed was the War of 1812? She references a 2004 Supreme Court ruling said a person can't protect themselves if they cannot grab their gun in a hurry. Couldn't she find a more recent Supreme Court decision like District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), or McDonald v. Chicago (2010)? I guess that would not have supported the outdated theory.
What about the Third Amendment? When was the last time troops have been housed in public quarters? It seems like when people have a disagreement with our Constitution they want it changed. How about the Ten Commandments, is that outdated? When was the last time it was needed? The courts have ruled that it should be taken out of public buildings and look where we are now.
If the public was more informed and understood our founding documents, looked at both sides of issues they might realize that our system works and nothing needs to be changed. The only thing outdated is our educational system and our government officials for not doing what they are supposed to do. Teach what is right, and do what they were elected to do.
