Oberholtzer, Leroy C.
Leroy C. Oberholtzer, 88, of Ada, Mich., formerly of Cedar Rapids, dignified and gracious to the end, went to join his wife, Carrie Snaidman Oberholtzer, on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011. He was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Winona, N.J.
He is survived by daughters, June Oberholtzer of Iowa Ruth Oberholtzer of Florida and Gail Sutton of Ada, Mich.; grandsons, Andrew and Jacob Sutton; sister and brother-in-law, Emma (Walter) Dalsimer of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.
Leroy was a veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He received his mechanical engineering degree from M.I.T. and was employed by Philco, where he was personally responsible for designing foam insulated refrigerators. Leroy went on to work on the design of the GPS System used in the space program with Rockwell International. Leroy lived his life to the fullest and was an inspiration to everyone he knew.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, Grand Rapids, Mich.
