Work together to shut down puppy mills

To the editor:
There are more than 200 puppy mills in Iowa. Animals are being cruelly treated and laws are not being enforced.
We need to get legislation passed to help these poor dogs. They are used for breeding purposes only. They do not receive proper food, shelter, heath care and do not know what the human touch is, the feel of grass on their feet, they are in cages with multiple dogs, never washed, and either auctioned off or discarded when they can no longer breed.
We need to enforce the laws and shut them down. We need to be the voice for these dogs.
Please let's get the word out to support legislation. If your child was treated this way, would you sit back and do nothing?
