VINTON -- Jim Womochil has resurfaced as a high school football coach.
Womochil, who coached the past 10 seasons at Cedar Rapids Jefferson, has been named as the coach at Vinton-Shellsburg.
"This was a family decision," Womochil told The Vinton Today website.
Womochil graduated from Vinton High School in 1985.
He posted a 22-78 record at Jefferson, advancing to the playoffs once. The J-Hawks are in the midst of a 22-game losing streak.
Womochil took a leave of absence at Jefferson in January, then was named a volunteer assistant at Iowa State University.
"It was an outstanding experience," he told The Vinton Today.
Womochil succeeds Pat Farley at Vinton-Shellsburg. The Vikings were 3-6 last season.
Vinton-Shellsburg opens Aug. 24 at Benton Community.
