Final status on basketball players' eligibility known Tuesday

Final eligibility status for Iowa's men's basketball players should be known on Tuesday, associate sports information director Matt Weitzel said.

Iowa associate athletics director Fred Mims is in certification meetings all day today and won't have final answers until Tuesday. Mims is in charge of compliance and student services.

Mims said last week he was trying to get all the players through the NCAA Clearinghouse and didn't forsee any problems. Iowa's three incoming freshmen -- Devyn Marble, Melsahn Basabe and Zach McCabe -- all are registered as current students, according to the university registrar's office on Monday morning.

The NCAA Clearinghouse, which formerly was housed in Iowa City and now resides in Indianapolis, often is overloaded with eligibility questions as university campuses start fall semester classes.
