CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids school board members had their first look at the new district logo at Monday night's school board meeting.
The new multi-colored image will replace the former district logo that has been in place for more than 10 years.
Marcia Hughes, the district's community relations supervisor, called the new design modern, but said it uses several timeless elements that will age well with the district for a substantial period of time.
The new design was developed by district stakeholder group that included teachers, parents, students, administrators, and support staff representatives. The committee of 12 worked with the district's community relations department and de Novo Alternative Marketing.
Jen Neumann of de Novo said everyone on the committee was of the same mindset, to create something that spoke of the district's diversity.
The text was chosen to be strong and decisive looking, but also accessible.
“It's a clean design that can be used with almost any application,” Neumann told the school board.
The logo was built with flexibility. It has two formats – vertical and horizontal – and can also be printed in black and white, gray scale or single color when necessary without disintegrating the core brand.
The district paid $3,000 to de Novo for the new design.
The new logo will be “rolled out” district-wide throughout the 2011-12 school year. Hughes said it was introduced in the summer because that's when printing pieces for the coming year are being produced and/or updated.
