Some too preoccupied with salvation of others

Iowa trappers have discovered what the tobacco, junk/fast food and dirty-energy industries already know (“?‘A good time for trappers,'?” Nov. 22): If you are involved in a somewhat disreputable enterprise that is falling from favor in the relatively enlightened west, go east, young man, go east - to Asia.
Those parts of Asia, at least, where dog meat is a delicacy and the demand for illicitly obtained animal parts is driving elephants, rhinos and tigers toward extinction. (My husband hastens to note that all this is anathema to his Hindu culture. A religion with actual scruples - imagine that.)
Speaking of religion, and in view of the “Duck Dynasty” kerfuffle: Many “religious” types are curiously self-absorbed - my rights, my money, my guns - until it comes to the matter of soul saving, whereupon they display an unhealthy preoccupation with the salvation of others. Perhaps they should tend to their own souls instead. I'm sure my new hero, Pope Francis, would have some thoughts on that.
