Kurt and Brenda Warner will be coming back to Cedar Rapids in June to help complete two Habitat for Humanity houses.
The now-retired, star NFL quarterback and his wife are also coming with a $100,000 check for Habitat for Humanity.
The gift comes in the form of a challenge grant, with the community being asked to donate another $100,000 to build more Habitat homes in 2011, according to Jeff Capps, executive director of Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity.
The goal is to raise that money by June 25 - the day the Warners will be in the city, Capps said.
Those committing to an $8,000 “day” sponsorship - hopefully, with volunteers added in - will be invited to a luncheon that day with Kurt and Brenda Warner.
While in Cedar Rapids, the Warners also will help finish the 12th and 13th homes in this year's Habitat for Humanity building blitz, which takes place the week before.
Habitat is asking all potential donors to pledge money to meet the grant.
“I think it will be well received,” Capps said.
Those interested in donating should call Capps at (319) 366-4485 or e-mail him at jeffcapps@cvhabitat.org
