CEDAR RAPIDS – Police arrested a man early Friday morning after he returned to the liquor store where he allegedly assaulted a woman earlier in the evening.
Kendan Fonville, 18, no known address, was arrested around 1:43 a.m. at Puff N' Stuff, 2000 Wiley Blvd. SW, on suspicion of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, police said.
Police said a 23-year-old woman reported around 11:40 p.m. that she had been slapped by a man outside of the liquor store. The woman told police three men approached her car while she was waiting with her child and her boyfriend was inside the store. One man with a handgun told her to get out of the car, but she refused, police said.
When the boyfriend came back outside and noticed the suspects, he took off running and was chased by two of the men. At that point, the woman got out of the car, asking the third man not to hurt her or the child. The woman said the man slapped her, and then all three men got into a cargo van and left the scene.
The victim did not need medical attention, police said.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said police spotted a cargo van about three hours later and followed it to Puff N' Stuff, where Fonville got out and went inside. He was arrested when he came back outside.
The other suspects are described as a black male, about 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, and about 175 pounds, wearing a white shirt; and a black male, about 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-5, about 150 pounds with dreadlocks. An investigation is continuing, Hamblin said.
