Birth control has come a long way
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Since the FDA first approved the sale of the birth control pill in the United States in 1961, we have seen great leaps in the standard of living for American women. Having the ability to plan a family has meant more women pursuing higher education and entering the work force.
I'm thrilled to hear the recent news that birth control could soon be officially classified as a preventive health measure, and be available for no co-pay to all women through their health insurance.
A woman's financial circumstances should not stand in the way of her dreams, and this recent development is yet another example of how federal health care reform is helping to ensure this for all American women.
