Three young men believed to be suspects in an armed robbery Tuesday morning have been released.
Police are continuing to investigate what they are now calling the “alleged” robbery. Just before 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, a woman reported she was robbed at knife-point in the 600 block alley between 21st and 22nd avenues SW.
The woman, whose name has not been released, told officers the suspects left in a green Ford Explorer. A few minutes later, police spotted a vehicle matching the description parked in the 1500 block of Sixth Ave. SE. Three young men associated with the vehicle were taken into custody by police.
One of them, Dustin Vifian 20, of Cedar Rapids, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, police said. He was released after a court appearance Wednesday morning. The other two young men, who have not been identified, were released without any charges Tuesday.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin would not release specific details of the investigation, other than to say police are still reviewing the woman's claims.
