To the editor:
High speed chases are never a good idea. Case in point, the high speed chase in Cedar Rapids with speeds that exceeded 100 miles an hour that ended with several people injured that required a trip to the hospital. Among those injured was the driver of a school bus and a student on the bus that the man being pursued careened into. Thankfully there were no fatalities in this incident.
High speed chases across the country many times result in innocent people's lives being taken and countless people being injured. Many law enforcement agencies have decided that pursuing a car at high speed is not worth the possibility of taking a life. The Cedar Rapids Police Department should review their policy concerning these chases and error on the side of caution, meaning the chase is not worth the risk.
